I love the chance to rebuild something similar, but make it better all around.

An old friend I grew up with reached out to me to help him out with an already-built site for their non-profit.  To add to this, I had some family that were already part of the group, so I jumped into it with both feet.

They had used a free theme from WordPress’s theme store and it was overly complicated and wasn’t fulfilling what they were trying to get across.  Also, their existing website host was taking upwards of 10-20 seconds to load their site!

Needless to say, I helped them move to a more affordable domain registrar and host.  We cut their price by over half and their load times to under a second (as it should be).  I also rebuilt the site based on the style of the free theme to keep things consistent, but I updated it to modern design and development standards.  I also made a focus on their events calendar, as that is a main source of communication of events to the team and their parents.

All-in-all, it was a complete success and I’m really glad I got to be a part of it.
